NM: Raytheon Cuts Ribbon on New Albuquerque Mfg Facility for 60 New Jobs

Oct 18, 2017

Governor Martinez joined Raytheon for the ribbon-cutting ceremony on the company's new Albuquerque manufacturing facility. The expanded operations will continue to support key missions for the U.S. military and coalition partners.

"When we lower taxes, cut through bureaucratic red tape and strengthen our incentives, companies choose New Mexico," said Governor Susana Martinez. "We will continue to make our state the best place to live, work and raise a family so that we can continue to create opportunities for New Mexicans."

The expanded operations will focus on range monitoring and telemetry systems for U.S. and coalition partners. Governor Martinez and Raytheon announced the expansion, which will create 60 new jobs, earlier this year. The positions will include high-tech manufacturing, program management, engineering, and other jobs.

"We're thrilled that Raytheon continues to expand in Albuquerque," said Mayor Richard J. Berry. "I am pleased that they have been able to take advantage of our great workforce and through their strategic location at the Sandia Science and Technology Park they are able to take advantage of potential collaborations with the world's finest scientists."

Acquired by Raytheon in 2011, the Albuquerque site currently supports the production of high-powered microwave directed energy technology and aircraft range monitoring systems. Nearly 200 employees presently work on site.

"Raytheon is growing its high-tech manufacturing footprint in rural and urban New Mexico, where workers are producing vital national security technology," said Todd Callahan, Raytheon Naval Area and Mission Defense vice president. "New Mexico has a long history of scientific excellence, and we value our strong partnership with this state."

New Mexico is providing $850,000 for the expansion through the state's closing fund, known as LEDA. LEDA is New Mexico's closing fund, which helps recruit new businesses to the state while helping those that are already here grow and thrive. Nearly zeroed out when Governor Martinez took office, she fought to grow this important tool to more than $56 million. In addition to the $850,000 in LEDA funding from the State of New Mexico, the City of Albuquerque will commit $425,000 in LEDA funding to the project.

This news follows Governor Martinez's recent announcement that New Mexico is a national leader in economic growth. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, New Mexico's economy was the third-fastest growing in the country through the first quarter of 2017. Governor Martinez also announced earlier this year that Facebook will double its investment in New Mexico - bringing its total commitment to New Mexico to half a billion dollars.
