Automotive Sector Revving Up

Alabama's automotive industry hasn't escaped the impact of the economic downturn, and there are certainly still some rough patches of road ahead. But there also are signs that the auto industry -- at least that portion with production in Alabama -- could be poised for a comeback.

The most encouraging sign for the River Region is, of course, the fact that Hyundai has returned to a five-day work week for its employees and that a backlog of inventory for the company has been reduced.

Hyundai's leadership team deserves credit for an aggressive incentive program for buyers that appears to be making a big difference for the company.

While the Montgomery area naturally is focused on Hyundai, there are other encouraging signs for the state's auto sector.
