MI: MEDC Announces $11 million MAHLE Expansion, 350 New Jobs in SE Michigan

Jun 11, 2012

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation today announced that MAHLE Industries, one of the world’s leading automotive and engine component manufacturers, is investing $11 million to expand its technical headquarters in Farmington Hills. It is expected that by early 2013 there will be over 350 employees on the Farmington Hills campus.

“MAHLE is an important player in our automotive supply chain with roughly 850 employees here and their expansion in Michigan tells global companies that Michigan holds great opportunities for growing their business,” said Governor Rick Snyder. “Our flexible incentive program, simplified business tax structure and new efforts to connect employers with talented workers, make Michigan one of the best business climates in the country.”

Snyder met with MAHLE executives during his mission investment to Europe in March, when he and a Michigan delegation visited German and Italian government officials and major company executives to promote business opportunities in Michigan.

“Governor Snyder's meeting with MAHLE executives in Germany underscored the strong relationship between Michigan and the company and demonstrated that Michigan is more business-friendly than ever, as well as how important automotive R&D activities are for our state,” said MEDC President and CEO Michael A. Finney. “The expansion of the Farmington Hills Tech Center will further strengthen MAHLE’s Michigan presence, especially in the development of future engine components, and provide additional high paying jobs for years to come.”

“We are very pleased to have acquired the former Nailco facility located next to us in Farmington Hills,” said Roland Zitt, President, MAHLE Industries, Incorporated. “This move not only allows us to consolidate sales, accounting, finance, legal, human resources and IT functions on one campus, but it also demonstrates MAHLE’s commitment to the state of Michigan and the automotive industry.”

MAHLE has operated in Michigan for more than 25 years. Its customers also include heavy diesel engine manufacturers like Cummins and Caterpillar. MAHLE employs approx. 850 people in Michigan in its facilities in Farmington Hills, Novi, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Muskegon, Saint Johns, Troy and Ann Arbor. The company’s product applications include engine and powertrain components as well as filter systems. The operations in Grand Rapids focus on heavy duty HVAC components for military applications.
