Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bill Hagerty, along with Brookdale Senior Living Inc. officials, announced the company will expand its current corporate headquarters at 111 Westwood Pl. in Brentwood. Through this expansion, Brookdale will invest $2.1 million and add 162 new jobs over the course of five years.
“I want to thank Brookdale for choosing to reinvest in Tennessee and creating these high quality jobs in Williamson County,” Haslam said. “Here in Tennessee, we work hard to create the kind of environment where businesses can thrive and continue to grow and today’s announcement supports our goal of becoming the No. 1 location in the Southeast for high quality jobs.”
“We are very pleased with Brookdale‘s expansion in Tennessee and their decision to continue investing in Williamson County,” Hagerty said. “Tennessee consistently ranks among the top states in the nation for doing business, a recognition we strive toward in our efforts to encourage incumbent business expansion as well as winning new investment. I appreciate Brookdale’s vote of confidence in our workforce and the additional jobs they will create for Middle Tennesseans.”
Brookdale is a leading owner and operator of senior living communities throughout the country, with nearly 650 communities in 36 states and the ability to serve approximately 66,000 residents. The company currently employs more than 375 people at its Maryland Farms corporate headquarters and is committed to expanding in Tennessee. In February of this year, the company announced an intent to merge in the third quarter with Emeritus Corporation to create the first truly national senior living solutions company. Post-merger, Brookdale will have more than 1,100 senior living communities in 46 states, including the nation’s 30 largest metropolitan areas. It will be able to serve over 112,000 seniors and their families with a workforce of more than 80,000.
“In 2009, Brookdale employed less than 200 corporate associates at our Brentwood location and we’ve grown over the years to what will be more than 500 people,” Brookdale chief executive officer Andy Smith said. “Our corporate team here is focused on supporting our communities across the country so residents receive outstanding services and care every day. We look forward to bringing on board even more associates who have a passion for serving seniors and supporting our communities.”
"We welcome the expansion of Brookdale’s headquarters here in Brentwood,” Brentwood Mayor Betsy Crossley said. “Their positive growth is a testament to the outstanding business climate both in our city and in Williamson County."
“TVA congratulates Brookdale on their expansion which brings new jobs to Brentwood,” John Bradley, TVA senior vice president of Economic Development, said. “TVA and NES are pleased to be economic development partners with the state of Tennessee, Brentwood and Williamson County officials to facilitate the success of existing companies.”
The expansion of the company’s corporate headquarters will add jobs in the areas of operational support, marketing, financial analysis, and information technology to support its communities nationwide, including the 25 located in Tennessee. The company is leasing 28,000 square feet of additional office space in Brentwood to accommodate growth post-merger with Emeritus.
