DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc., a leading independent medical group in America and leading provider of kidney care services, announced the company is expanding its footprint in downtown Denver and will build a new space at 2001 16th St.
The new building will be up to 410,000 square feet, with DaVita leasing 265,000 square feet of space. This will allow for 1,200 additional DaVita HealthCare Partners teammates. The structure will be positioned directly across 16th Street from DaVita's original headquarters building, creating a unique urban campus environment in Denver's lower downtown area.
"Today is an exciting day. We continue to grow, while providing some of the best clinical outcomes in the country," said DaVita HealthCare Partners Chairman and CEO Kent Thiry. "When we moved to Denver, we were confident that we would find a place for our new corporate headquarters. What we underestimated was that we would find a community that aligns so well with our own values."
"When you recruit a headquarters to your state, you do everything you can to ensure they're successful and grow," said Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper. "With DaVita, we also welcomed a devoted community partner. Their support has benefited everything from our schools to business development to hundreds of charities and non-profits. We are delighted with their announcement today and proud they call Colorado home."
DaVita's headquarters building, completed in 2012, was the first corporate build-to-suit project located in the Denver central business district in the past 35 years. Since moving from Los Angeles to Denver in 2010, the company has created more than 1,500 local jobs, added millions to the local economy and has placed DaVita HealthCare Partners leaders on the boards of nearly 40 nonprofit entities throughout the city.
"In just a few short years, DaVita has become a vital part of Denver's economy and our community," Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock said. "Denver is proud of DaVita's success and excited the company will continue to grow and thrive here. DaVita has played a key role in Lower Downtown's resurgence as a vibrant hub for innovative businesses. This next chapter for DaVita and Denver is set to build on that momentum."
"The local talent, active community, and beautiful landscape have made Denver a great home for us," said DaVita Kidney Care CEO, Javier Rodriguez. "We are excited to grow with this fantastic city."
The architect of record is the Gensler Firm. BuildMark Construction will provide construction management services and the leasing entity and property owner is East West Partners.
"DaVita truly put Denver on the map as a destination for business and corporate headquarters," said Chris Frampton, managing partner at East West Partners. "DaVita has been an incredible partner with others in lower downtown Denver and in creating what Union Station is today. Their commitment to downtown has had and will continue to have a significant impact."
Groundbreaking for the new building is scheduled for July of 2016.
