IL: Catamaran Innovation Center to Be Located in Chicago

Jul 26, 2013

Catamaran Corporation and Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced that the pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) will locate its national Innovation Center in Chicago, drawing top healthcare and business innovators to the city from across the nation. The 25,000-square-foot center is located at 300 North LaSalle in the city’s River North district and brings 50 Catamaran employees to Chicago.

“Catamaran’s selection of Chicago for the site of their new Innovation Center reflects a growing recognition of Chicago’s world-class status as a leader in taking a forward-thinking, 21st century approach to business,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel. “I welcome the Catamaran Innovation Center to River North and look forward to working together to build a more prosperous and healthy city.”

The Center will enhance Catamaran’s already groundbreaking efforts in the pharmacy benefit industry, providing a space for healthcare experts, business leaders, consultants, and clients to collaborate and view the future of pharmacy, driven by Catamaran's innovation.  At the Center, Catamaran will demonstrate how it harnesses the power of comprehensive data and flexible technology to improve health outcomes and reduce medical costs.

“Catamaran has grown from an $81 million company in 2006 to a $14 billion company, and embedding innovation into every aspect of our operations is how we did it,” said Mark Thierer, Chairman and CEO of Catamaran. “Now, with the opening of the Innovation Center, we can take idea generation to the next level, and the Chicago area – our home for more than 12 years – provides an ideal environment with its infrastructure and strong innovation community.”

Using innovative technology to solve today’s pressing healthcare issues, Catamaran is the fastest-growing and fourth-largest pharmacy benefit manager, helping organizations and the communities they serve take control of prescription drug costs.  As one of Chicago’s largest companies, Catamaran combines clinical data and advanced analytics to predict and protect patients who are at high risk for preventable and expensive healthcare conditions. With its powerful approach redefining the industry, Catamaran now manages more than 250 million prescriptions on behalf of 25 million members.
