Amazon is planning to hire 250,000 seasonal employees in the U.S. during the 2024 holiday season, matching its 2023 target for the season. The seasonal hires includes full-time, part-time and seasonal jobs in Amazon's fulfillment and transportation operations, according to Sandy Gordon, an Amazon V.P., in an announcement recently.
The company says seasonal work often can be a path to longer-term employment. It noted that seasonal employees who remain as employees see an average pay increase of 15 percent in their first three years of employment.
Amazon recently announced a $1.50 an hour increase in average base pay for U.S. hourly workers, to more than $22 an hour. All seasonal workers will make at least $18 an hour, and full-time seasonal workers will have access to health-care benefits starting on their first day on the job, according to the company.
Among other major retailers, Target has said it would add about 100,000 seasonal employees, similar to last year. J.C. Penney plans to add 10,000 seasonal workers, also matching its 2023 count of seasonal employees.
