The American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) — the unified voice of seaports in the Americas — has released its list of 2022 Lighthouse Awards winners. Hosted since 1966, the Lighthouse Awards acknowledge outstanding port communications, environmental improvement, facilities engineering, and information technology projects.
Winners in the 2022 Environmental Awards categories are Port of Stockton for Environmental Enhancement, Suape Port for Environmental Mitigation, and Port of Tacoma for Stakeholder Awareness Education and Involvement.
The Facilities Engineering category was awarded to Port of Everett for Improvements in Intermodal Freight Transportation. The Information Technology category was awarded Port of Seattle for its Equity Index project.
The recipients of the 2022 Overall Award of Communications Excellence are Maryland Port Administration (Category 1), Port Stockton (Category 2), and Port Everglades (Category 3). Each of the categories are designed to represent ports of different sizes, with varying marketing, communications, public relations, and advertising budgets.
AAPA's independent team of port professionals reviews submissions for the annual Lighthouse Awards. Based on the number of points awarded each entry by the judges, three entries earned an Overall Award of Communications Excellence, while 13 entries earned an Award of Excellence (similar to first place), ten entries scored an Award of Distinction, and six entries netted an Award of Merit.
AAPA would like to thank every port team who participated in this year’s awards program. The Lighthouse Awards plaques will be presented to the Overall Award of Communications Excellence winners at this year’s 111th Annual Convention and Expo, which will take place in Orlando, Florida from October 16-19, 2022.
Winning submissions and additional information can be found on the Lighthouse Awards webpage.
