LA: Mauser to Invest $10M in Geismar Industrial Packaging Project, Add 75 Jobs

Jun 21, 2017

Mauser will complete a $10 million capital investment in a new Louisiana packaging facility in Geismar, near its major industrial customers in Ascension Parish. Mauser USA LLC – part of the German global industrial packaging company, Mauser Group – will operate a 40,000-square-foot packaging and logistics facility on a 5-acre site in Talon Industrial Park.

“Mauser continues to grow by supporting the growth strategies of our customers,” said Mauser Group CEO Hans-Peter Schaefer. “Louisiana has provided a strong location to achieve this growth and Mauser is proud to be a part of it.”

The project’s initial phase will create 28 new direct jobs with an average annual salary of more than $58,000, plus benefits. Louisiana Economic Development (LED) estimates the project will result in 47 new indirect jobs, for a total of 75 new jobs in the Capital Region and surrounding areas. Mauser USA’s initial project phase will support the packaging needs of chemical manufacturing customers in the Geismar area. The project has the potential to expand with a second phase that would yield 19 additional jobs, for a total of 47 new direct jobs.

“Louisiana is a global leader in the production of petrochemicals, with the Geismar area of Ascension Parish being one of our most important production hubs for this vital industry,” said Gov. John Bel Edwards. “Mauser’s selection of Louisiana and Geismar signals their recognition of our growth in this sector and the importance of ramping up customer service to support the most important manufacturing markets in America. We welcome one of the world’s industrial packaging leaders to our state and are grateful for their creation of new career opportunities in Louisiana.”

In Ascension Parish, Mauser will produce custom-engineered plastic containers for shipment of industrial chemicals in the project’s initial phase. Additional phases could include steel and other forms of packaging in response to industry demand.

“We’re excited to be investing in a new permanent facility in Louisiana that will deliver Mauser’s industry-leading packaging technology more efficiently to some of the world’s most important industrial manufacturers,” said Mauser USA President and CEO Glenn Frommer. “The strong business climate, strategic supply chain and powerful workforce programs Louisiana offers made this decision a logical one for our company.”

LED began working with Mauser USA on the potential project in December 2015. To secure the project, the State of Louisiana offered the company a competitive incentive package that includes the LED FastStart® workforce development program. Mauser is expected to utilize the state’s Quality Jobs and Industrial Tax Exemption programs.

“We are delighted by the announcement of Mauser USA’s project in Ascension Parish,” said President and CEO Kate MacArthur of the Ascension Economic Development Corp. (AEDC). “Mauser is a key supplier to existing industries here and represents an opportunity to further diversify Ascension’s employment base, which is one of Ascension Economic Development Corporation’s key strategies.”

Mauser’s continual growth, coupled with its commitment to sustainability, made the Geismar location a logical decision. Company officials said the Geismar site will improve the reliability of service and replace out-of-state delivery routes with delivery routes of fewer than 5 miles for key customers.

“Congratulations to Mauser on their decision to move forward. They will be a tremendous regional asset and catalyst for continued growth,” said President and CEO Adam Knapp of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC). “BRAC’s team worked with AEDC to help Mauser in the site selection process. The Talon Industrial Park is the ideal location to launch their Louisiana presence.”
