Jun 19, 2013

FedEx Trade Networks, the customs brokerage and freight forwarding arm of global shipping giant FedEx Corp., announced the grand opening of its new Romulus, Mich. distribution facility.  This new facility offers expanded service offerings to customers, including a full portfolio of customs brokerage, freight forwarding and distribution solutions.

As one of the largest-volume customs entry filers in North America, FedEx Trade Networks has provided exemplary customs brokerage and freight forwarding services in Romulus for several years. With the new facility, FedEx Trade Networks can now offer additional distribution and warehousing options to meet its customers' total supply chain needs.

“Romulus is a key point of entry for FedEx Trade Networks and one of our largest U.S. customs brokerage operations. By adding onsite distribution services to our already vast portfolio offered in Romulus, we can provide customers more opportunities to improve their supply chains,” said Fred Schardt, president and CEO, FedEx Trade Networks. “Expanding our capabilities in Romulus supports our goals of providing integrated, end-to-end customer solutions and growing our freight forwarding business organically.”

The new FedEx Trade Networks Romulus facility offers a suite of distribution services to complement international and domestic trade, including complete door-to-door coordination from origin to destination, FedEx® International DirectDistribution, consolidation and deconsolidation, trans-loading, cross-docking, and full-carton and pick-and-pack distribution.

The FedEx Trade Networks Romulus office, located at 11101 Metro Airport Center Drive, Suite 100, has more than 40,000 sq. ft. dedicated to onsite distribution, and is strategically located with easy access to the U.S. Customs Port of Detroit, Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) and downtown Detroit business centers. The Detroit region’s transportation, distribution and logistics industry is supported by seven international border crossings and ranks as the busiest U.S./Canada border crossing.

The Romulus expansion is part of the company’s focus on strengthening its North American infrastructure as it continues to grow globally. Since 2008, FedEx Trade Networks has opened a total of 58 new freight forwarding offices while enhancing several of its more than 80 existing locations in the U.S. and Canada. The company’s aggressive global expansion has increased its presence throughout Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and North America. In addition to opening the new Romulus distribution facility, the company recently relocated its Highgate Springs, Vt.; Houston, Texas; Phoenix, Ariz. and New York (JFK), N.Y. offices to larger, strategically located facilities.
