NAM: Administration’s About-Face on Job-Killing Ozone Standard Offers Glimmer of Hope, But Manufacturers Face Barrage of Regulations

National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) President and CEO Jay Timmons issued this statement today following President Obama’s request that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) halt its discretionary reconsideration of current ozone air quality standards:

“Today’s decision to wait to review the standard until 2013 is the right move to protect jobs, and we hope it serves as a cautionary tale.

Manufacturers still face a great deal of uncertainty from regulations looming on the horizon, including the Boiler MACT rule, the Utility MACT rule, the National Labor Relations Board’s ‘ambush elections’ rule and a slew of others that will hamper our ability to grow and compete. We urge the Administration to apply the same approach to these other burdensome regulations that it did when deciding to forgo the discretionary ozone standard.

If policymakers want manufacturers to help put the economy back on solid footing, we need policies that enable us to create jobs, invest and compete in the global marketplace.”
