IN: Door Manufacturer to Add Jobs in Walkerton

May 12, 2010

Modern Door Corporation announced plans to expand its manufacturing operations here, creating 20 jobs by 2013.

Modern Door Corporation, a subsidiary of Wisconsin-based Plyco Corporation, specializes in steel, aluminum and fiberglass walk doors and ventilation products commonly used in commercial post frame and metal clad buildings such as agriculture, equestrian or hobby buildings.  The company's expansion calls for a $770,000 investment in machinery, equipment and building improvements to prepare for production of a new line of doors for the post frame and light commercial markets.

"Modern Door Corporation's decision to grow in Walkerton over all other options is the latest confirmation of Indiana's low-cost, pro-growth business climate," said Mitch Roob, Secretary of Commerce and chief executive officer of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.

Modern Door Corporation currently manufactures and distributes its products from a 155,000 square-foot facility in Walkerton where it employs approximately 100 associates and plans to hire additional assemblers and production workers next spring.

"To provide our customer base with new designed products we need to build on our existing workforce and improve our process capabilities. With the state of Indiana's focus on job creation, we determined this to be the right location to grow," said Rick Coffman, general manager.  "You must bring new and value-added products to market to sustain and increase sales and the Modern Door team is working hard to make that happen."

The company, founded in 1954, distributes doors to commercial construction contractors across the United States and Canada.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Modern Door Corporation up to $45,000 in performance-based tax credits. The town of Walkerton is considering additional economic assistance.

"We are excited and honored that Walkerton was the chosen location for the expansion of Modern Door Corp. It is encouraging to see growth in our local manufacturing industry," said Karol Jackson, Walkerton town board president. "This thrills us to see the creation of 20 new full-time jobs which will help with the continuing growth to our community. We appreciate the ongoing investment Modern Door has made to this community and wish them continued success in their Walkerton facility."
