GA: Mannington Mills to Bring 200+ Jobs, $50M Investment to Madison

Oct 07, 2013

Gov. Nathan Deal announced that Mannington Mills, the world’s leading manufacturer of luxury vinyl tile, will expand its Morgan County production facility, growing the company’s presence in Georgia by 219 jobs over the next few years, with the potential for even more.

“Mannington’s decision to grow its business here in Georgia is a direct reflection of the high quality of our workforce and the ease of access we provide to its global markets,” Deal said. “These are the most critical components of the portfolio we are building in support of our goal of making Georgia the No. 1 state for business.”

Mannington Mills is a fourth-generation, family-owned business that produces numerous commercial and residential floorcovering products including hardwood, laminate, porcelain tile, broadloom carpet, carpet tiles, sheet vinyl, rubber tiles and rubber wall base. The company’s total investment in the state of Georgia over the next few years will top $50 million.

“This expansion is coming to fruition thanks to cooperation from the Georgia Department of Economic Development, the Madison-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce and Georgia Power,” said Russell Grizzle, President and CEO of Mannington Mills, Inc. “With the approval of Governor Deal, we were able to put together an aggressive plan that will allow Mannington to expand and grow in the state of Georgia. We are grateful to them for helping to make this vision a reality and are especially excited that we are expanding domestically, adding jobs and investing in the U.S. economy.”

The size of the current facility’s footprint will be doubled during the expansion, representing a quadrupling of the facility’s manufacturing capacity since March 2012. The company expects to break ground by the end of 2013 and to significantly increase its local workforce by January 2015. During the expansion, Mannington will continue its current operations without interruption.

“Morgan County welcomes this new addition at the Mannington facility and we look forward to a long and prosperous partnership,” said Ellen Warren, chair of the Morgan County Commission. “We appreciate their confidence in our county and their decision to expand their business here. We very much welcome the jobs they are bringing to the county.”

Mannington purchased Burke Flooring in 2008 and Amtico, a flooring manufacturing company, in 2012, increasing its stake in the flooring industry. The company is projected to continue its growth through capturing market share and through new product development in both the commercial and residential sectors. Luxury Vinyl Tile is the company’s fastest-growing line and Mannington is moving its production to the United States from China to more effectively meet customer demand. In addition to the Morgan County facility, Mannington also has locations in Calhoun and Conyers, as well as High Point, N.C.; Epes, Ala.; San Jose, Calif.; Eustis, Fla.; Coventry, U.K., and headquarters in Salem, N.J.

Project managers Susie Haggard and Carl Campbell assisted the company on behalf of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, which partnered with the Madison-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce and the Georgia Manufacturers Association.

“Thanks to the workforce and infrastructure we’ve developed over numerous decades, the floorcovering industry has remained an economic mainstay in Georgia,” said Chris Cummiskey, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development. “Mannington’s product diversity and advanced manufacturing techniques lend to the industry’s success in our state.”
