KS: Horizon Global Selects KS City Region for 120-Job Distribution Center

Jul 25, 2017

Horizon Global, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of branded towing and trailering equipment, announced that it is nearing completion on a new 512,000-sq.-ft. distribution facility in Edgerton, Kansas, that is expected to create more than 120 new jobs.

“Our company conducted a freight management and distribution study and, ultimately, selected Edgerton as an ideal location for the center of our North American distribution operations,” said Ron Dill, director of Operations and Logistics, Horizon Global. “When the Edgerton facility begins shipping to Horizon Global customers by the end of the year, it will provide improved delivery times and service levels for our aftermarket and retail customers, while also providing savings to the company through a more efficient distribution platform.”

The new Edgerton facility will be the main hub for the company’s Horizon Global Americas Division, consolidating distribution into a more centrally located and larger facility, while simultaneously upgrading distribution operations through automation and technology. The Edgerton location is part of the company’s larger distribution strategy and will be supported by strategically placed regional distribution facilities throughout the United States.

Horizon Global’s new Edgerton facility will be located at Logistics Park Kansas City (LPKC), a 1,700-acre master-planned distribution and warehouse development anchored by BNSF Railway’s newest intermodal facility.

“The Kansas City region continues to stand out as an ideal location for centralizing distribution in the U.S. and North America,” said Chris Gutierrez, president of KC SmartPort, an affiliate of the Kansas City Area Development Council (KCADC). “We are proud to welcome Horizon Global and its Americas Division to the Kansas City region and look forward to seeing their continued growth in our market.”

“The Kansas Department of Commerce is excited to welcome Horizon Global, the latest excellent company to make Kansas its home,” said Kansas Commerce Interim Secretary Nick Jordan. “It is fitting that a company like Horizon Global has chosen the city of Edgerton for its main hub of distribution. We, at the Department of Commerce, look forward to working with Horizon Global and other great companies to continue the tradition of logistics excellence in the state of Kansas.”

“We welcome the addition of Horizon Global Americas Division and their employees to the Edgerton community,” said City of Edgerton Mayor, Donald Roberts. “Companies like Horizon Global are looking for strategic ways to advance their businesses and LPKC offers the right environment to support those goals by being the choice location to efficiently enter the global supply chain.”

KCADC was proud to work with a number of regional partners in attracting Horizon Global to the region: State of Kansas, Kansas Department of Commerce, City of Edgerton, ElevateEdgerton!, CBRE, NorthPoint Development, JLL, KCP&L, BNSF, Johnson County Community College, IMKO Workforce Solutions, QPS Employment Group, Focus Workforces and KC SmartPort.
