May 15, 2014

Scout Boats Inc., a manufacturer of sport fishing boats, is expanding its Dorchester County facility in response to increased customer demand - both domestically and overseas. The company's $2.5 million investment is expected to create 300 jobs.

The company is building an additional 30,000 square feet onto its 182,000-square-foot facility. The expanded factory in Summerville will build composite parts for newly designed LXF series (the 275LXF, 300LXF, 320LXF, 350LXF, 380LXF and 420LXF models) and component parts for the new 275 & 320 Dorado series.

Founded in 1989 by President and CEO Steve Potts, Scout Boats can now be found in 72 dealers across the nation and world.

Scout Boats has been involved with the South Carolina Department of Commerce's export assistance program (State Trade and Export Promotion, or STEP), which has helped the company make export connections in countries such as Mexico, Brazil, Finland, Sweden, Italy, Colombia and Australia. Through the STEP program, Scout Boats has been able to foster these new sales relationships and boost the company's bottom line, creating the opportunity for additional expansion.
