TN: Oshkosh Corp. to Open Mfg Plant in Jefferson City, Create 300 Jobs

Jul 13, 2018

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bob Rolfe announced Fortune 500 company Oshkosh Corporation will establish a manufacturing facility in Jefferson City.

Oshkosh Corporation, a leading designer and manufacturer of specialty vehicles and vehicle bodies, plans to create more than 300 jobs in Jefferson County over the next three years.

“For more than a century, Oshkosh Corporation has had a reputation for making high quality products and I’d like to welcome this tremendous company to Jefferson City, Tennessee,” Haslam said. “Oshkosh is a perfect addition to the robust manufacturing sector found here in Tennessee. Because of significant investments like Oshkosh’s, Tennessee will lead in the creation of high-quality jobs.”

“Oshkosh’s decision to create hundreds of jobs in Jefferson City is yet another sign that Tennessee is a place where leading manufacturers choose to do business,” Rolfe said. “Thank you to Oshkosh for this investment in Jefferson County. I look forward to the considerable impact these jobs and wages will have on the citizens of East Tennessee.”

Oshkosh’s Jefferson City facility will house welding and fabrication operations in support of Oshkosh’s multiple segments. Oshkosh plans to renovate and occupy the former John Deere building in Jefferson City, and will be installing new machinery and equipment in the coming months. The approximately 500,000-square-foot facility is expected to be operational in 2019.

“With products and facilities around the world, we are excited to grow our operational footprint,” said Wilson R. Jones, Oshkosh Corporation President and CEO. “Oshkosh Corporation is positioned for success in all segments and this new manufacturing facility will allow us to continue to respond to the demand for increased manufacturing capabilities.”

Local officials and the Tennessee Valley Authority applauded Oshkosh for establishing a new plant in Jefferson City.

“We are thrilled at the prospect of additional jobs and the overall economic impact that Oshkosh’s presence will mean,” Jefferson City Mayor Mark Potts said. “We also believe that Oshkosh will quickly become a real partner in helping to realize the huge potential of Jefferson City and the surrounding area.”

“I am extremely grateful and pleased the Oshkosh Corporation has decided to locate operations in Jefferson County,” Jefferson County Mayor Alan Palmieri said. “This is outstanding news for the residents of Jefferson County as it will offer exceptional job opportunities as well as having an enormous economic impact on our community.”

“TVA and Appalachian Electric Cooperative congratulate Oshkosh Manufacturing on its decision to locate in Jefferson County and create hundreds of job opportunities,” TVA Senior Vice President of Economic Development John Bradley said. “Helping to facilitate new job creation is fundamental to TVA’s mission of service and we are pleased to partner with Economic Development Alliance of Jefferson County, city of Jefferson City, Jefferson County, Innovation Valley, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennessee College of Applied Technology and Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development to help further that mission.”

Jefferson City and Jefferson County are represented by Sen. Frank Niceley (R - Strawberry Plains), Rep. Jeremy Faison (R - Cosby) and Rep. Andrew Farmer (R - Sevierville) in the Tennessee General Assembly.
