IN: Equipment Dealer MacAllister Machinery to Invest $44M in Indy HQ

Sep 24, 2014

MacAllister Machinery Co., Inc., the authorized Caterpillar equipment dealer for central Indiana, announced plans to construct a new corporate headquarters facility in Indianapolis, Indiana, creating up to 70 new jobs by 2018.

The homegrown-Hoosier company will invest $44.5 million to construct and equip a new 300,000 square-foot office complex on 133 acres at 6300 Southeastern Ave. in Indianapolis, more than tripling its headquarters’ size from its current Indianapolis offices. The facility, which will house sales, rental, parts, equipment service and administrative operations, is expected to be operational by December 2016 and will allow the company to bring more of its operations under one roof, along with providing display areas for the company’s full line of products and equipment.

“Hoosier heritage runs deeply through companies like MacAllister Machinery,” said Governor Mike Pence. “Hoosiers are builders, with a tradition of entrepreneurship and a goal of excellence. MacAllister Machinery embodies this spirit and recognizes the limitless potential for growth here in Indiana, a state that works.”

MacAllister Machinery, which currently has approximately 500 employees in the Indianapolis area and nearly 1,000 statewide at its 20 Indiana locations, plans to begin hiring for diesel mechanic, truck driving, sales, administrative and clerical positions immediately. Interested applicants may apply at www.careers.macallister.com.

“Four generations of MacAllisters have been committed to the city of Indianapolis and Indiana. We are Hoosiers through and through,” said Chris MacAllister, president and chief operating officer of MacAllister Machinery. “This new headquarters on Southeastern Avenue will allow us to consolidate five separate locations into one and provide the elbow room to operate more efficiently. Our customers, employees and the community will be better served, plus we will have room to continue growing. We are especially appreciative of Mayor Greg Ballard, Governor Mike Pence and their staffs for assistance in making this project a reality.”

Founded in 1945, MacAllister Machinery sells a complete line of Caterpillar construction, mining and power generation equipment, in addition to offering equipment from other manufacturers, including Kubota, AGCO, JLG and Blue Bird. The fourth generation family-owned business also services and sells parts for multiple lines of construction equipment. With 20 rental and service locations located across the state, MacAllister Machinery has become one of the leading Caterpillar dealers in the country, with its chairman, P.E. MacAllister, named in July by Governor Pence as the 2014 recipient of the Sachem Award, Indiana’s highest honor, for his more than five decades of civic and community service.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered MacAllister Machinery Co., Inc. up to $1,000,000 in conditional tax credits based on the company's job creation plans. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The city of Indianapolis will consider additional incentives at the request of Develop Indy, a business unit of the Indy Chamber.

“This is a real win for Indy’s Southeast side,” said Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard. “MacAllister Machinery has a long-standing presence in Indianapolis. The company’s new headquarters and new jobs will benefit the area for years to come.”

Indiana continues to shine as one of the nation’s best places to start or grow a business. Earlier this month, Area Development magazine announced that Indiana’s business climate finished top in the Midwest, as well as seventh in the nation, according to its 2014 Top States for Doing Business Survey.

About IEDC
Created in 2005 to replace the former Department of Commerce, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation is governed by a 12-member board chaired by Governor Mike Pence. Victor Smith serves as the Indiana Secretary of Commerce and Eric Doden is the president of the IEDC.

The IEDC oversees programs enacted by the General Assembly including tax credits, workforce training grants and public infrastructure assistance. All tax credits are performance-based. Therefore, companies must first invest in Indiana through job creation or capital investment before incentives are paid. A company who does not meet its full projections only receives a percentage of the incentives proportional to its actual investment. For more information about IEDC, visit www.iedc.in.gov.
