Pinkjersey.com, an online retailer of mainly Italian cycling products, has announced a plan to open up to 250 locally-owned retail bicycle shops and service centers in the U.S.
“The stores will be locally-owned, will sell Italian and European cycling products, and will be funded using a similar program to our Cost-Plus Program for [our] pilot store," said company spokesperson Natalie Cristino
The pinkjersey.com Cost-Plus Program (CPP) applies 10% to a product’s landed cost, plus credit card fees and shipping. This then arrives at the item’s selling price to retail enrolees. Landed cost is defined as Pink Jersey’s wholesale price from the original distributor or manufacturer, plus shipping. Credit card fees are 2.9% plus US$0.30 per transaction.
“We recognize that 250 stores is grandiose, so we are focusing our immediate attention on opening a single location in order to prove the model,” Cristino added. “There is a hard raise in mind and we are hopeful our nearly 35,000 clients historically, and over 5,000 new clients this year will understand the brevity of the offer and that there is broad participation; this is in the realm of a generous employee discount.”
Participation in the pinkjersey.com Cost-Plus Program is US$100. The fee has to be paid on or before January 31, 2021, and the Cost-Plus savings begin on February 14, 2021.
The company notes that… If a blended gross margin of 43.75% is assumed at retail, then the break-even for clients to participate in the pinkjersey.com CPP is US$228.57.
Enrolment into the CPP begans on January 1, 2021, and will end on January 31, 2021. The CPP will launch on February 14, 2021, and will remain in effect through December 31, 2021.
If a ‘critical mass of clients’ have not enrolled into the CPP by January 31, 2021, however, the program will be cancelled and any fees paid by clients will be refunded in full.
Brands that are currently available or pending under the pinkjersey.com Cost-Plus Program can be found on the company’s ‘Brands’ page, under ‘COMPANY’ in the main menu. Details about the Pink Jersey Cost-Plus Program can also be found under ‘COMPANY’ in the site’s main navigation, where there is a link to enrol.
