Construction has begun on a 116,000 square foot campus for ViaSat Inc. at the Arizona State University Research Park in Tempe. The campus, owned by Phoenix-based Levine Investments LP and built by PCG Construction Inc., will consist of a manufacturing building, two-story office building and extensive indoor and outdoor amenity areas. ViaSat will move about 200 employees, now located in two facilities in Gilbert, into the new facility, which is planned for completion in July 2015. When finished, the new offices will have space to expand to 350 employees. A Phase 2 master plan is designed to add square footage on site in the future that would increase the headcount capacity beyond 400.
ViaSat’s Arizona location specializes in design and manufacturing of advanced microwave communication and radar products, radio frequency systems, and cybersecurity. Technology developments encompass semiconductors through subsystems and include millimeter wave MMICs and modules, as well as cybersecurity and encryption technologies for securing communication networks.
The 320-acre ASU Research Park offers a professional business environment, with mature landscaping and three lakes covering eighteen surface acres. Recreation facilities include over six miles of surfaced jogging trails. ASU also offers tenants access to its services, including cooperative research projects and an MBA program.
