Governor Jan Brewer and Amazon.com officials today celebrated the online retailer’s creation of more than 3,000 jobs and combined investment of approximately $150 million in Arizona, including a new facility in Phoenix scheduled to open this fall.

“Amazon is a quality employer, so I’m proud they’ve chosen to invest in Arizona,” said Governor Brewer. “The company’s newest facility means even more jobs for Arizona citizens, and is one more sign that our economy is on the right track. The recent launch of the Arizona Commerce Authority and announcements like this by Amazon prove that Arizona is open for business. I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to Amazon for its continued investment in our great state.”

The Governor and city and state officials commemorated Amazon’s completion of a new 1.2 million-square-foot facility, which opened last year. The company also today announced plans to open a similar-sized facility in Phoenix this fall, generating hundreds of full-time and seasonal jobs.

“Amazon’s expansion and investment in Arizona demonstrates that we offer a highly-skilled workforce and a business-friendly approach, which is increasingly appealing to companies representing the most innovative and passionate sectors in the world,” said Don Cardon, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority.

The new Phoenix facility will be Amazon’s fourth fulfillment center in Arizona, bringing the company’s total footprint in the state to more than 4 million square feet. Amazon also recently announced plans to build an approximately 400,000-square-foot expansion to its facility at 6835 West Buckeye Road.

"Amazon's announcement today is a significant step forward in a growing Phoenix economy," said Mayor Phil Gordon. "Last year, Amazon took an unoccupied building shell and worked with city staff to turn it into their largest fulfillment facility; this year we will continue to assist Amazon with their growth at the Buckeye facility, creating thousands of jobs and investing millions in its future in Phoenix."

“Amazon’s robust expansion in Arizona signifies the region’s strength as a favorable operating environment that supports corporate growth,” said Barry Broome, president and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council.
