Amazon will open an Amazon Fresh grocery store in Whittier, Calif, according to a report in the Whittier Daily News. The publication said an Amazon spokesperson confirmed that a shuttered hardward store in the Friendly Hills Marketplace will serve as the latest Amazon Fresh site.
The company launched its first Amazon Fresh store in Woodland Hills, Calif., in August. Amazon designed the format to offer a seamless shopping experience with extra perks for members of the Amazon Prime paid loyalty program. Features of the high-tech format include the smart Amazon Dash Cart self-service shopping cart, integrations with Alexa voice technology, and direct same-day delivery and pickup services.
The Whittier store will open in an area with a number of nearby established brick-and-mortar grocery competitors. Amazon previously announced it plans to open other Amazon Fresh store locations in North Hollywood, Calif., and in Oak Lawn and Schaumburg, Ill.
