Outdoor retailer REI Co-op will open a new store in Glenwood Springs, Colo., in summer 2022.
“REI’s presence in Colorado began in 1983 with our first store in Denver. Glenwood Springs will be our ninth location in the state,” said Janet Hopkins, REI regional director for the mountain district. “We look forward to serving the community and visitors who come to enjoy the hot springs, trails, waterways, and endless outdoor opportunities. REI will also seek partnerships with local outdoor nonprofits to support their efforts in protecting natural places and welcoming more people outside.”
The store will be located at 3216 South Glen Avenue in the Roaring Fork Marketplace in Glenwood Springs. The store will occupy 20,030 square feet and feature a full-service bike and ski shop, gear rentals, buy online/pick up in-store, curbside pickup, and offer virtual outfitting.
“REI Co-op is an ideal addition to the Roaring Fork Marketplace Shopping Center and the community in general,” said Matthew Sanger with Pegasus Realty Corporation, an affiliate and representative for the property owner. “REI’s presence shows the attractiveness of the Glenwood Springs retail market.”
REI actively partners with nonprofits across the U.S. to steward and maintain local trails and public lands. Over the last five years, it has invested “$4.9 million in Colorado-based land agencies and nonprofit partners.” This year, more than “$600,000 was invested in 21 organizations including Boulder Climbing Community, Colorado West Land Trust, Friends of the Dillon Ranger District, Rocky Mountain Field Institute, Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado, Wildland Restorations Volunteers, and national nonprofits that are based in Colorado.”
