CT: Grocery Chain Wegmans Gearing Up for First Connecticut Store, to Hire About 500 Employees

Aug 05, 2024

Grocery chain Wegmans is looking to hire and train workers for its first store in Connecticut, to open next year. The company plans to hire about 500 to workers for the  92,000-square-foot store in Norwalk.

The company has started hiring for full-time positions for the store, which include entry-level management, customer service positions and culinary roles. It will begin filling part-time roles at a later date. The new store will sit on nearly 11 acres of land adjacent to Interstate-95.

Along with the Norwalk store, Wegmans is planning to open two other locations next year:  in Lake Grove, N.Y., and Rockville, Md. In April, Wegmans announced plans for a roughly 110,000-square-foot store in Charlotte, N.C., that it plans to open in 2026, reports Grocery Dive.

The Norwalk store is Wegmans' first in Connecticut. Earlier this year the company opened an 88,000-square-foot store in Yardley, Pa. Wegmans stores in New York account for nearly half of the grocer’s 111 stores.
