Environmental Laboratories Inc., a provider of environmental testing services and products, announced today that it will expand its operations here, creating up to 20 new full-time jobs by 2014.
The company, which provides wastewater, drinking water and solid waste testing services and in-home test kits for soil and water testing, will invest more than $683,000 to lease and equip additional space to increase overall testing capacity and provide assembly space for new product offerings.
"Keeping Indiana businesses like Environmental Laboratories Inc. and the talented workers they employ at home is why it is so important to continue working to make Indiana as business friendly as possible," said Mitch Roob, Secretary of Commerce and chief executive officer of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.
Environmental Laboratories Inc. plans to begin hiring testing personnel and assembly workers later this summer as new machinery is phased in at the Madison office. In addition to the assembly operations, the company will add new wastewater and drinking water testing capabilities.
"Choosing Madison is a natural for us, with our roots being here for the past 29 years. Madison is the perfect location for our sales and marketing plan to promote our in-lab and in-home testing capabilities," said Chris Myers, president and chief executive officer of Environmental Laboratories Inc. "We have many clients in Indiana and we intend to continue to support jobs here for the foreseeable future. We appreciate the city of Madison and the state supporting our growth."
Founded in 1982, Environmental Laboratories Inc. has undergone several internal expansions, most recently a $1.3 million expansion of laboratory space in 2004. The company serves more than 1,000 customers throughout the Eastern and Midwestern United States.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Environmental Laboratories Inc. up to $85,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $35,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. The city of Madison will consider additional property tax phase-in at the request of the Economic Development Partners of Jefferson County.
"It's great to support small business. Madison is proud to be home to a world class lab," said Madison Mayor Tim Armstrong.
Environmental Laboratories Inc.'s announced expansion comes just more than two months after four Clark County companies announced their plans to expand operations in Southeast Indiana. In February G.F. Munich Welding, Talon Logistics Services LLC, Shoe Sensation Inc. and Nexgen Mold & Tool announced plans to grow their respective operations, creating up to 92 combined jobs by 2013.
