Sunright America Inc., a Japanese manufacturer of automotive fasteners, announced plans today to grow its operations here, creating up to 100 new jobs by 2014.
The company will expand its current 170,000 square-foot building in Columbus to 320,000 square feet. It will begin construction and installation of new manufacturing equipment this fall.
"It is especially gratifying to welcome these new jobs to Indiana on the heels of the Lieutenant Governor's successful jobs mission in Japan," said Governor Mitch Daniels. "As the country's top manufacturing state, there is no better place for Sunright to expand its business than Indiana and Columbus will continue to be great home for this global success story."
Sunright, which currently has 93 full-time employees in Indiana, plans to begin hiring additional manufacturing, quality and production control associates to coincide with facility improvements.
Incorporated in Indiana in 2002, Sunright's parent company, Sugiura Seisakusho Co., Ltd., is located in Aichi, Japan. In 2008, Sunright expanded and moved to its current Columbus location. The company, which primarily manufactures weld nuts and flange nuts, supplies to approximately 80 customers including Toyota and Hino.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Sunright America, Inc. up to $550,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $200,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. The city of Columbus will consider additional property tax abatement at the request of the Columbus Economic Development Board.
"We are thrilled to have a company like Sunright double its size in Columbus," said Mayor Fred Armstrong. "The 17 Japanese companies that call Columbus home are very important to us, and Sunright has been a model corporate citizen in our community."
Sunright joins the growing list of Japanese companies investing their business in Indiana. So far this year, five Japanese companies have made plans to locate or expand in the Hoosier state for a total of more than 240 projected new jobs and more than $68 million in investment.
