IA: Waukon High School Regional Welding Lab Offers Open House

Nov 05, 2019
WAUKON—Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC), Allamakee Community School District and Allamakee County Economic Development & Tourism invite the public to attend an open house for the newly renovated Regional Welding Lab at Waukon High School on Thursday, August 22nd from 5-7 p.m.

Over the last year, Allamakee Community School District and Northeast Iowa Community College, along with the Iowa STEM Best Grant and Allamakee County Community Foundation Grant, have made significant investments to upgrade the welding lab at Waukon High School.  Northeast Iowa Community College will be offering welding career pathway certificate classes for high school students during the school day starting in fall 2019 and in the evenings for adults starting in February 2020.

The goal is to create a pipeline of talent to fill current and future welding vacancies within our region.  Students in the welding career pathway certificate classes will learn the principles of interpreting manufacturing-part blueprints, use of basic measuring tools and identification of welding symbols, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) processes, and the principles, benefits and the development of safe working habits and familiarity with welding-related equipment. This program is designed to upskill your welding ability to successfully pass the American Welding Society's GMAW test, which is an industry-recognized assessment.

At the open house you may tour the newly renovated Regional Welding Lab, learn about the welding career pathway certificate classes that will be offered in the coming year, and meet the welding instructor.

The Regional Welding Lab is located at Waukon High School (1061 3rd Ave NW, Waukon).  Enter through the auditorium entrance on the east side of the building (park in the parking lot between Waukon Middle School and West Elementary).
