Laird Technologies, headquartered in St. Louis, announced recently that it will expand its plant in Lenexa and add employees over the coming year. The company designs and supplies components for advanced electronics and wireless products, and will begin manufacturing Bluetooth wireless modules at its Lenexa facility. In addition to the facility expansion, Laird Technologies will also add four new workers.

“I’m pleased that we were able to help Laird Technologies expand in Lenexa and begin making a product new to its U.S. operations,” said Kansas Commerce Secretary Pat George. “I look forward to the company’s continued success in Kansas.”

The Lenexa location will supply Bluetooth modules to wireless markets worldwide, beginning in the first quarter of 2011. Locating engineering design, manufacturing and testing in one location will result in reduced lead time for customers while providing timelier responses to technical upgrades coupled with superior product quality, said Bart Rehagen, Laird Technologies Lenexa Site Manager.

“Establishing the Lenexa facility as the worldwide location for Laird Technologies’ Bluetooth module manufacturing brings many benefits to customers in all markets,” Rehagen said. “Combining Bluetooth module manufacturing with Laird Technologies’ existing module manufacturing capabilities is a logical next step after being recognized with ISO 9001:2008 certification. Also, adding operations in the United States results in increased module production and shortened lead times, accommodating and complimenting Laird Technologies’ growing wireless module business.”

The company is a global market leader in the design and supply of electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, thermal management products, specialty metal products, signal integrity components, and antenna solutions, as well as radio frequency (RF) modules and wireless remote controls and systems.

Custom products are supplied to all sectors of the electronics industry including the handset, telecommunications, data transfer and information technology, automotive, aerospace, defense, consumer, medical and industrial markets.

Laird Technologies, a unit of Laird PLC, employs over 12,000 employees in more than 48 facilities in 16 countries.
