In a joint statement, executives with MGP Ingredients Inc. (MGPI) and Atchison city officials announce the expansion of plant operations to add 25 new jobs at its Atchison location over the next five years. The median wage of the new jobs will be $60,000.
The company plans an investment of $30 million to upgrade facilities and equipment in order to increase production capacity. MGPI produces naturally-derived specialty ingredients and alcohol products.
“As a long established local business, our company has a solid presence and vested interest in the Atchison community,” said Dave Rindom, MGPI vice president. “As we make these enhancements to strengthen our competitiveness in the marketplace and the improvements become increasingly visible, we will be able to show concrete evidence of not only securing, but building our future here.”
“This is an exciting announcement for our community,” said Stefanie Leif, community development director for Atchison. “MGPI took advantage of some great incentives offered by the state of Kansas, so it really was a team effort with our partners at the Kansas Department of Commerce that made this dream a reality.”
Kansas Commerce Secretary Pat George echoed Leif’s comments. “I congratulate MGPI for strengthening its commitment to Atchison and Kansas by expanding its operations and adding good quality jobs to the region," he said. "This is great news for the city and state, and I wish the company continued success in the future."
