LA: Expansion at Southland Steel Means 70 New Manufacturing Jobs to Fill

Mar 03, 2020
Southland Steel Fabricators Inc., supported by LED FastStart, will conduct a job fair on Wednesday, March 18, to identify potential employees for welding positions at its manufacturing facilities in Greensburg and Amite. Southland Steel announced in February 2019 that it would complete an $18 million expansion at the former Bradken foundry in Amite.

The job fair will take place March 18 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Northshore Technical Community College campus in Hammond, located at 111 Pride Drive near the Hammond Northshore Regional Airport.

"We are excited about our new facility and the opportunities it allows us to offer our community,” said President Joey Lombardo of Southland Steel Fabricators. “We will be hiring over 70 new team members in the coming months.”

Southland Steel seeks candidates for the following jobs: flux core welders, structural welders, structural fitters and structural welder/fitters.

Qualified candidates are encouraged to attend the job fair with a current résumé. Welders should be prepared to receive a scheduled date and time to conduct a welding test dependent on their interviews. For the scheduled welding test, candidates will be required to bring their weld-test equipment and attire to their scheduled weld test appointment, which will be in the Southland fabrication shop located at the Greensburg facility.

Southland Steel, which employs 184 in Greensburg, plans to fill 70 new positions in Amite with an average annual salary of $46,000, plus benefits.
