SPARC Research, a company focused on missile propulsion research and development, is opening a new satellite facility in downtown Cumberland, Md.

Headquartered in Virginia, SPARC decided to expand to Maryland after seeing the value and opportunity in a Western Maryland office space, as well as the potential for collaboration with local higher education institutions and the surrounding aerospace and defense community. This strategic move will help SPARC expand its revenue growth and create new highly-skilled engineering and technical jobs in the state.

To help with the expansion into Maryland, the company is utilizing a $100,000 grant from the Senator George C. Edwards Fund, with assistance from the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation.

“With three local employees already on staff, SPARC is looking forward to making the beautiful Rosenbaum building in Cumberland’s Historic City Center our new SPARC West home,” said SPARC Vice President Tom Moore, who will serve as site manager for the new office space. “We are committed to developing and hiring local STEM talent through partnerships with West Virginia University, Frostburg State University, and Allegany College of Maryland, more specifically through their Western Maryland Works makerspace.”
