NE: Amazon 'Last Mile' Distribution Facility Coming to Columbus, Neb., with About 50 New Jobs

Jan 22, 2025

A “last-mile” Amazon distribution facility will be coming to Columbus in 2025, according to Loup Power District.

“This facility will allow expedited service to Amazon customers in our service territory” said Todd Duren, Co-Chair of the Columbus Economic Council and Vice President of Corporate Services at Loup Power District. “The project will also benefit our local economy by providing employment opportunities for our local workforce. Columbus is extremely excited to begin and grow this partnership with Amazon.”

Last-mile delivery is the final leg of the delivery process and is one of the most critical in ensuring timely and safe delivery of packages. Amazon plans routes and uses a variety of delivery methods to ensure optimal efficiency in getting packages to a customer’s front door.

Loup finalized the sale of 10.4 acres of its Energy Triangle Addition in early December and site preparation began immediately.

The 50,000-square-foot facility will be constructed by Ryan Companies of Minneapolis. Amazon expects to employ approximately 50 people locally.

Loup has provided economic development services in its territory since its inception in the 1930s. The District purchased land north of Columbus along the Lost Creek Parkway in 2018 to build a new service center. Loup named it the Energy Triangle Addition and has marketed its unused land to businesses for economic development in the Columbus area.
