CommuteAir, in collaboration with United Airlines and the company’s Board of Directors, is finalizing details for the establishment of a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul facility (MRO) at its Lincoln (LNK) maintenance hangar. This milestone development marks a significant stride in the airline’s growth trajectory and commitment to fostering economic prosperity in the Lincoln community.
The forthcoming MRO facility in LNK will enable CommuteAir to conduct its heavy aircraft maintenance operations in-house as well as offer aircraft maintenance services to other airlines and aircraft operators. As commercial terms are being finalized, the company foresees substantial investments in infrastructure, training, and personnel, leading to the creation of over 50 new positions. This expansion will effectively double the current staff at LNK, providing a considerable boost to the local job market.
Moreover, the LNK hangar, being the largest in CommuteAir’s network, is uniquely equipped to accommodate the airline’s new E170 charter aircraft, solidifying its position as a crucial facility within the company’s operations.
“The expansion of our operations in Lincoln is a testament to the unwavering support we have received from this incredible community,” said Rick Hoefling, CommuteAir President & CEO. “As our airline continues to soar, we are creating more employment opportunities for the very community that has embraced us since our arrival in August 2021. Along with our partners at United Airlines, we look forward to making Lincoln a hub of possibilities for our extended CommuteAir family.”
To support the growth and welcome individuals interested in aircraft maintenance, CommuteAir is proud to offer its successful 30-month aircraft maintenance apprenticeship program. Candidates without FAA certifications can “earn while you learn,” with the company providing tools and covering the entire cost of the program. Apprentices will enjoy full-time employment status with CommuteAir, inclusive of benefits such as free air travel on United Airlines for employees, spouses, and eligible family members, medical and dental coverage, life and short-term disability insurance, a 401k match, and more.
“I am thrilled to witness the growth and expansion of the CommuteAir Hangar in our community,” said David Haring, Lincoln Airport Executive Director. “This doubling in size not only reflects the exciting development within the airport but also underscores the increasing importance of aviation infrastructure in driving economic prosperity. They have been a great partner of LNK and have showed their dedication to the community by assisting with our outdoor movies and allowing LNK to use their hangar for tours and events.”
The new MRO has also received support from the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development (LPED).
“We celebrate the prospect of adding new jobs and residents to our community and are thrilled to see an existing Lincoln business continue to grow,” said Jason Ball, President and CEO of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development.
