Empire State Development (ESD) today announced that TMI Food Group, an Asian noodles and dumplings manufacturer for the specialty food, food service, and restaurant markets, will invest $2.5 million in New York State. ESD is providing the manufacturer with a $100,000 grant for the expansion of its Brooklyn facility. As a result these companies will create 30 new jobs, bringing their New York City-wide employment to 200 over a five-year period.
“Governor Paterson and Empire State Development are committed to supporting the growth and development of New York State’s businesses,” said Empire State Development Chairman & CEO Dennis M. Mullen. “Twin Marquis is a true small business success story. The Tang family built their startup Chinatown noodle maker business from the ground up, turning it into one of the largest East Coast Asian food manufacturers. With their growing popularity, the upgrading of their manufacturing facility and their pledge to retain and create jobs in New York, Twin Marquis will no doubt foster sustainable growth and create delicious foods for years to come.”
“Twin Marquis began as small-scale noodle factory in Chinatown in 1989 and currently is one of the largest noodle factories on the East Coast,” said Empire State Development New York City Regional Director Joseph Tazewell. “Now a national manufacturer of noodles, wrappers, and dim sum, Twin Marquis has become a global player in the food industry. We are proud to continue to support a truly successful family business and encourage their continued growth within New York State.”
Twin Marquis proposes to purchase new equipment and make necessary building renovations to expand production capability. ESD’s assistance will go towards the costs associated with the acquisition of new machinery and equipment which will allow Twin Marquis to expand production of its chow mein and udon noodles by 43% with a value in annual sales of about $1.8 million. ESD previously provided a $225,000 Capital Economic Development Fund grant (EDF) to assist with a 2006 expansion project.
