New Warehouse/Distribution Facility Highlights Company’s 90th Anniversary Celebration

M-D Building Products today announced plans to build a new 80,000 square foot warehouse and distribution center at their Oklahoma City headquarters located in the Santa Fe Industrial Park between Northeast 36th and 50th Streets.

Founded in 1920 as Macklanburg-Duncan, the Oklahoma City company develops, manufacturers and markets a range of residential and commercial weatherproofing products, including door and window weather-stripping, garage door weather-stripping, pipe insulation and a complete line of interior and exterior caulking products.

The $4 million facility will support distribution of a wide variety of products, including its popular home and commercial weatherization products. Construction will begin immediately and is expected to be completed within 6 months. The property is being developed by the Gardner Tanenbaum Group of Oklahoma City.

The privately-held M-D Building Products operates a 450,000 square foot manufacturing and distribution facility in Oklahoma City, employing over 450 people.

“Oklahoma City has been our home since 1920 and provides us with a very dedicated and productive workforce. It is with great pleasure that we formally announce our expansion during this, our 90th anniversary celebration. We are very excited about our long-term future in Oklahoma City,” said Loren Plotkin, president & CEO.

“M-D Building Products is a leader in creating quality products for building, decorating and weatherproofing your home or office,” he added. “Today, with the continued national emphasis on energy conservation, our products remain in great demand. We are proud to produce products that are one of the most effective ways to help our country achieve the goal of decreasing our energy dependence on foreign sources through greater conservation.”

Plotkin cited the company’s “Weatherizing for Dummies” kit as an example of the company’s unique marketing approach in educating homeowners on best practices to weatherize their homes. The kit, recently featured on NBC’s Today Show, contains weatherstrip materials to reduce energy use in a home or office as well as an informative booklet to instruct homeowners on where and how to insulate their home. It is available nationwide at Lowe’s and other independent hardware retailers.

“The M-D Building Products expansion is great news for Oklahoma City,” said Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett. “Over the course of the past nine decades, this Oklahoma City company has emerged as the industry leader in weatherproofing technology. As our nation’s conservation movement picks up more steam, we expect M-D Building Products to continue growing in the years ahead.”

“As the leading manufacturer and distributor of weatherization technology in America, Oklahoma City’s M-D Building Products is helping forge the energy efficiency strategies that are playing a vital role in building the green economy of the 21st century,” said Oklahoma Department of Commerce Secretary Natalie Shirley. “M-D’s individual accomplishments will continue to move Oklahoma forward and sustain our knowledge-based economy.”

Roy Williams, president of the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, said, “M-D Building Products remains a pillar of strength in Oklahoma City’s manufacturing community. We are pleased to see the company continue to invest in Oklahoma City. M-D Building Products gives Oklahoma city the distinction of being the home to America’s only domestic manufacturer of weatherization products.”
