Retailer Von Maur plans to open a 118,000-sq.-ft. department store at South Hills Village in Pittsburgh in the fall of 2024. It will be the retailer's first location in Pennsylvania and is expected to employ more than 100 workers.

The location will feature the retailer’s signature exterior brick façade and interior ambiance, with original artwork, an open-floor plan and music from a grand piano, reports Chain Store Age. Von Maur, based in Iowa, is a 150-year-old, family-owned retailer intent on expanding its national footprint. The retailer currently has 36 stores in 15 states, and plans to open a second Wisconsin location in Madison this fall.

"The unrivaled shopping experience created at South Hills Village through its enticing mix of shopping, dining and entertainment makes it a one-of-a-kind destination and an outstanding location for us to open our first location in Pennsylvania," said Jim von Maur, president of Von Maur,  and the fourth generation of von Maur family members to lead the company.

In June, Von Maur was named the No. 1 U.S. department store in Newsweek’s America’s Best Retailers 2022 rankings, reports CSA.

“This recognition is such an honor, and it is truly a testament to our associates, our products and our loyal customers across the country,” stated von Maur in a news release at the time. “Since opening our doors 150 years ago, we’ve had an unwavering commitment to offering unparalleled customer service and unmatched styles and selections.”
