The South Carolina Department of Commerce and Cherokee County today announced that OldCastle Lawn and Garden will expand its current production facility in Cherokee County. The $625,000 investment is expected to generate at least 30 new jobs.
“Oldcastle is a thriving company that promotes growth and excellence in standards of safety, quality and production. We are excited to be in Cherokee County and look forward to growing together in community spirit,” said David H. Blanton, plant manager for OldCastle Lawn and Garden.
OldCastle Lawn and Garden will add equipment to its current facility in Cherokee County. The new equipment will expand the plant’s production of the company’s bagged wood chip and mulch products. The company expects to start the expansion by the end of the year.
“OldCastle Lawn and Garden has had a presence in South Carolina for a number of years, and we are pleased to see them grow here. Our state’s commitment to the business fundamentals, such as working to keep taxes and regulatory burdens low, is important now more than ever in helping to keep businesses competitive and encourage growth. We recognize that OldCastle Lawn and Garden could have made this investment anywhere, and we appreciate the company’s decision to further invest and create jobs in Cherokee County,” said Joe Taylor, Secretary of Commerce.
“We are truly grateful for OldCastle’s decision to expand in Cherokee County. We welcome the new jobs and their continued commitment to the future growth of our entire community,” stated Cherokee County Council Chairman Hoke Parris.
The company intends to begin hiring for the new positions in the spring of 2011 and will hire through the Gaffney Workforce Center at that time.
