Sasco Safety, a maker of highway safety products, recently announced its new operations in Barnwell County. The $1.9 million investment is expected to generate 25 new jobs.

“We are pleased to establish our new facility in Barnwell County. We received fantastic service from state and local officials in helping make our decision on where to locate, and SCE&G provided us with very competitive rates. South Carolina gives us an advantageous location for doing business and we are very confident we’ll find success here,” said Kevin Bradley, CEO of Sasco Safety.

Sasco Safety is establishing its new manufacturing facility in Barnwell in the former Hanesbrands building, relocating its operations from Alexandria, Egypt. The company makes a range of highway safety products, including traffic cones, drums and channelizers.

“Today’s announcement is another important win for one of our rural areas. We celebrate Sasco Safety’s decision to establish its facility in Barnwell and create 25 new jobs. This announcement also shows that our state is attracting businesses from across the globe,” said Gov. Nikki Haley.

Since January, Commerce has been involved in recruiting more than $3.3 billion in capital investment and more than 10,000 new jobs in the manufacturing sector.

“Sasco Safety is a leader in the production of highway safety products and we welcome them to our state’s business community. South Carolina has a strong reputation in the manufacturing sector and this announcement builds on that reputation,” said Bobby Hitt, Secretary of Commerce.

“This is more great news for Barnwell County and especially the City of Barnwell as new job opportunities continue to be created for our area,” said Barnwell County Council Chairman Travis Black.

“We appreciate the Barnwell County EDC’s efforts in bringing Sasco Safety to Barnwell. This breathes new life into the former Hanesbrands facility and brings much needed jobs to our County,” said Barnwell Mayor Edward Lemon.

“As additional jobs continue to be announced for Barnwell County, it reinforces the confidence companies have in our local workforce. Manufacturing is alive and well in Barnwell County and this international company’s relocation to the United States is another example of the bright future Made in America products have in our global economy,” said Barnwell Economic Development Commission Chairman Pete Grady.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved a grant for the company for infrastructure improvements and the S.C. Technical College System will provide pre-employment training.

The company will begin hiring for the new positions in the first quarter of 2012.
