Leprino Foods Company, the world’s largest producer of mozzarella cheese and a global leader in dairy ingredient production, has officially opened the first phase of its cutting-edge, 850,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in East Lubbock. This state-of-the-art plant will produce mozzarella cheese and nutrition products, reinforcing Lubbock’s position as a key player in the dairy and food manufacturing industries.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by Leprino executives, local government officials, business and education leaders, and dairy suppliers, celebrated this monumental step forward for the region’s economic growth.
Leprino’s Commitment to Growth
“This year marks our 75th anniversary, a moment to celebrate our journey and envision the future—a future that includes Lubbock,” said Dan Vecchiarelli, Executive Chairman of Leprino Foods. He highlighted the facility’s dependence on regional dairies, with approximately 200 milk trucks supplying the plant daily. Over the next decade, Leprino’s investment is expected to generate an estimated $10.6 billion in economic impact for Texas.
Scott Conant, Plant Manager, added, “This project required over 4 million labor hours and involved 1,400 contractors on-site daily. As our most sustainable facility yet, it reflects Lubbock’s drive for innovation while championing sustainability in West Texas.”
Transforming Lubbock’s Economic Landscape
John Osborne, CEO and President of the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance (LEDA), emphasized the significance of this milestone. “The opening of Leprino is a historic milestone for our city. Leprino’s facility will have a transformative impact on Lubbock’s economic landscape for decades to come. It’s been five years in the making; as the largest capital investment in Lubbock’s history – $1 billion, more than 600 jobs, and the inception of a new industry. We are thrilled to celebrate this new chapter for our city and Leprino.”
Beyond the immediate economic benefits, this development solidifies Lubbock’s standing as a prime location for large-scale industrial growth, creating opportunities for businesses and workforce expansion.
Job Creation & Economic Impact
By March 2025, the facility is projected to employ approximately 300 full-time workers in roles spanning production, operations, engineering, and human resources. With a second phase of expansion beginning later this year, total employment is expected to reach 600 by 2026. The facility’s annual payroll will exceed $33 million, offering competitive wages and robust job opportunities in the region.
Global Reach, Local Commitment
Leprino Foods’ newest facility in Lubbock joins its global network of manufacturing sites in California, Colorado, Michigan, New Mexico, New York, the UK, the EU, and Brazil. This expansion reinforces the company’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and excellence, while strengthening Lubbock’s position as a leader in economic development.
LEDA is proud to support this transformative investment and looks forward to the lasting benefits it will bring to the city. Leprino Foods’ decision to invest in Lubbock highlights the city’s role as a hub for business, innovation, and opportunity.
