Birmingham Ethanol Terminal Opens CHS Inc. celebrated the opening of its new ethanol distribution venture in Birmingham, Ala., yesterday with a special event held at Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Leeds, Ala. “This exclusive transload terminal allows ethanol to be moved more quickly and efficiently to blender customers in the southeastern United States,” says John Litterio, director, CHS Renewable Fuels Marketing. “We are excited to partner with forward-thinking companies on this terminal, the latest of our efforts to improve the flow of ethanol from plant to buyer, reduce dependence on foreign oil and add value for grain producers.” CHS Renewable Fuels Marketing is the exclusive marketer of renewable fuel products from the new terminal. Collaborators in the project include Blendstar, LLC of The Woodlands, Texas (engineering, construction and back-office accounting), Transload Limited, Inc. of Birmingham (facility operations serviced exclusively by the BNSF Railway), and BBTL, LLC of Birmingham (owner of the site). “The Birmingham terminal will help us get a competitive price for the ethanol we produce at our plants in Iowa and Illinois,” says Jim Leiting, general manager, Big River Resources, LLC of West Burlington, Iowa. “CHS and its partners have gone the extra mile to develop a southeastern market to serve our BNSF rail needs.” In addition to the new terminal, CHS has invested in renewable fuels distribution projects at Aurora, Colo.; Council Bluffs, Iowa; McFarland, Wis., and McPherson, Kan.
