A second H-E-B store is in the works for the Central Texas city of Leander. At more than 103,000 square feet, the new store will feature an expansive product assortment and “several convenient services customers come to expect from H-E-B,” according to the San Antonio-based grocer. Construction is slated to begin early next year with a grand opening planned for Nov. 2022, reports Winsight Grocery Business.
“Each H-E-B is special, and this store will be no exception, offering an exciting and complete shopping experience,” H-E-B public affairs director Leslie Sweet said in a statement. “We have served Leander for more than a decade and are thrilled to grow with this community.”
In addition to expanded produce and dairy departments and an expanded H-E-B Organics selection, other offerings include H-E-B curbside and home-delivery service; a pharmacy with drive-thru; and a spacious self-checkout area.
A full-service scratch bakery and tortilleria will offer a wide selection of artisan breads, fresh tortillas, desserts, pastries and custom cakes. An expansive deli featuring in-house roasted meats will also be in-store, as will a full-service meat market and seafood counter; a Meal Simple area with chef-inspired options for quick and easy meat planning; a Sushiya offering handmade sushi selections made in-store daily; and a Blooms floral area offering online ordering.
H-E-B’s original Leander store is an H-E-B Plus!, which the retailer describes as more than a grocery store. “We’re outfitting Texas families with all they need for Texas lifestyles—from the coolers sporting your favorite Texas teams to a new smoker for your famous brisket. This is your one-stop for electronics, toys, housewares, grilling and outdoor, party supplies, apparel and more,” the company's website states.
News of H-E-B’s Central Texas expansion comes as the grocer gets ready to open its new 90,000-square-foot Oak Hill store in southwest Austin on Oct. 27. Built on more than 30 acres at the southeast corner of U.S. Highway 290 and FM 1826, the new store features several environmentally sustainable elements, such as rainwater harvesting, water retention ponds, adherence to impervious cover regulations, and compliance with all aquifer regulations, says the company.
