UT: Energy Company Williams Open Salt Lake City Office, to Meet Demand in Western U.S.

Oct 21, 2024

Williams, an energy infrastructure company that moves one third of the nation’s natural gas, opened a new office in Salt Lake City this week as energy demand in the West grows. Natural gas is used to heat home, cook food and generate low-carbon electricity.

In 2023, Williams acquired MountainWest natural gas transmission pipeline and storage assets, adding approximately 2,000 miles of pipelines across Utah, Wyoming and Colorado, as well as 56 billion cubic feet of gas storage.

This week, Willliams President & CEO Alan Armstrong, along with other company leaders, commemorated the grand opening of the new office with a ribbon cutting and tours. Guests included local and state elected officials and community leaders.

“This new office represents our commitment to investing in our Utah employees and the economic future and social prosperity of the state,” Armstrong said. “Salt Lake City is the energy gateway to the West and well-positioned to lead the clean energy economy in the region as the need for reliable, affordable energy continues to grow.”

Williams is an anchor tenant in “650 Main” – a new 10-story, Class A office building at 650 S. Main St. in Salt Lake City. Roughly 150 employees occupy two floors – consolidating what were previously two separate office locations with additional space to grow.

“We’ve been operating in Utah for a long time, extending back to the 1950s with Northwest Pipeline, in addition to all our operations in the surrounding states of Wyoming and Colorado,” said Candyce Fly Lee. “Two years ago, Williams made good on an opportunity to acquire MountainWest natural gas transmission and storage assets from Southwest Gas Holdings. The best part of the acquisition was the people who came with it. We added a talented and skilled group of frontline operations, operations support and shared services employees to bolster what we can do.”

Among other amenities, 650 Main includes an attached parking garage, an indoor fitness center with a retractable glass wall that opens to an outdoor lawn, and outdoor courtyards that offer meeting areas, a fire pit, ping pong tables and a bocce ball court.
