The new construction will house production of larger machines that are in demand, as well as additional offices.

Family-owned machinery manufacturing company C.R. Onsrud recently broke ground on a new 67,000-square-foot building, which will bring the manufacturing campus up to 225,000 square feet. The new construction will house production of larger machines that are in demand, as well as additional offices. The company says the new investment expects to add at least 50 new positions, reports the publication Woodworking Network. The new building is expected to be completed during Q2 of 2024.

"We feel very fortunate to be in a position of growth and opportunity, investing in the future of manufacturing, and the positive impact this has on the people in our local community,” said CEO Tom Onsrud. “And I think our customers will be pleased because now we'll have the space to make more machines — especially the large ones — and ship them out faster.”

This new construction is part of a multi-phase expansion project that includes a 9,900-square-foot expansion of the existing machine shop along with the purchase of new equipment to increase production capacity, reports Woodworking Network. The expansion represents a $17 million reinvestment into the business for the new building, expansion, and equipment.

The company expects this investment will add another 50 to 100 positions to its manufacturing headquarters in the Town of Troutman. Currently, C.R. Onsrud has about 200 employees.  “With the huge demand for manufacturers to produce more [product] faster, our CNC machine tool manufacturing business has boomed. We need the floorspace, and I'm looking forward to growing our team,” said Onsrud. “A company is nothing without its people."

Since 1976, from their factory in Troutman, C.R. Onsrud has designed and engineered advanced CNC machining solutions for a wide range of industries, including aerospace, marine, woodworking, and composites, amongst many other industries. The Onsrud family has been in the machining business for over a century.
