Lousiana Governor John Bel Edwards grew up in Amite, Louisiana. With four Tangipahoa Parish sheriffs in his lineage, he learned the importance of public service at an early age. He graduated in 1988 from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and served eight years as an active-duty Airborne Ranger with the U.S. Army. He then graduated Order of the Coif from the LSU Law Center and set up a civil law practice in his hometown of Amite. After serving eight years in the Louisiana House of Representatives, he was elected as the state’s 56th governor in 2015. In 2019, Louisiana voters re-elected John Bel Edwards to another four-year term.
